Jack Poe Honored as Appraisal Institute’s “Volunteer of Distinction”
Jack Poe, MAI, of Dallas, was recognized today as the Appraisal Institute’s July “Volunteer of Distinction” for Region VIII.

“Jack Poe is an exceptional ambassador for the Appraisal Institute,” said Appraisal Institute President Ken P. Wilson, MAI, SRA. “We’re proud to be represented by individuals like Jack, who faithfully serve our organization and the real estate valuation profession, as well as their local communities.”

Poe currently serves the Appraisal Institute as chair of the national Experience Panel and previously, as the member, at large, for the Appraisal Standards Committee, from 2010 – 11 and served on that committee from 2008 – 09. He was chair of the Communications Committee and the Public Affairs Committee in 2004; and, a member of the Communications Committee in 2003.

Education Scholarships Available
Annual scholarships will be distributed to North Texas Chapter Associate Members to use toward MAI or SRA designation track courses sponsored by the North Texas Chapter. Scholarship applications must be submitted to the Chapter office by Friday, May 3. The awards shall be announced to the membership by May 13. MacKenzie Bottum honored as Appraisal Institute’s ‘Volunteer of Distinction”

The Appraisal Institute is the nation’s largest professional association of real estate appraisers; Region VIII consists of New Mexico and Texas. Bottum is a member of the North Texas Chapter.

 “MacKenzie Bottum is an outstanding representative for the Appraisal Institute,” said Appraisal Institute President Richard L. Borges II, MAI, SRA. “We’re proud to have individuals like MacKenzie who continuously strive to advance the valuation profession while also serving their local communities.” Bottum was on the Appraisal Institute’s national board of directors from 2008-2012. He was chair of the Appraisal Institute’s General Appraiser Council in 2003 and vice chair in 2002. He served as North Texas Chapter president in 2003, vice president in 2002, secretary in 2001, treasurer in 2000 and Admissions Committee chair in 1999, as well as on a number of national and chapter committees. He joined the Appraisal Institute in 1984 and received his MAI designation in 1988. Bottum has been president of MacKenzie S. Bottum & Associates, Inc., in Addison, Texas, since 1989. He has been involved in the real estate valuation profession for 31 years. He holds a bachelor’s degree in business and real estate from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business in Bloomington. He is married and has two children.

Congratulations to Lance Coyle, MAI, SRA
Lance Coyle, MAI, SRA was nominated for 2013 Appraisal Institute Vice President by the National Nominating Committee at its May 6 meeting in Chicago. National Nominating Committee Chair, Joseph C. Magdziarz, MAI, SRA, announced the committee’s decision to the Board of Directors at its May 7-8 meeting in Chicago. The Appraisal Institute Board of Directors will elect the 2013 Appraisal Institute Vice President at its Aug. 4-5 meeting in San Diego. Congratulations Lance!

TREC and TALCB Strategic Plan Input Meeting
The Texas Real Estate Commission (TREC) and Texas Appraiser Licensing and Certification Board (TALCB) have scheduled a meeting on Thursday, March 29 at the MetroTex Association of Realtors, primarily for the purpose of guiding their strategic planning process through the input received from attendees. Attached is detailed information about the meeting. TREC – TALCB Strategic Planning Meeting (2012)  Please confirm your attendance at one or both of the meetings listed below. 1. North Texas Chapter Preparatory Meeting – Thursday, March 22 – The North Texas Chapter will hold a preparatory meeting on Thursday, March 22 from 11:30am to 1:30pm (prior to the TREC/TALCB meeting). The purpose of the meeting will be to discuss topics and issues affecting appraisers as they relate to the TALCB, and to coordinate our input to the TALCB. Diane Butler has been elected as the 2012 national president of CREW
Diane Butler of CREW Dallas has been elected as the 2012 national president of Commercial Real Estate Women Network. Butler is CEO of Dallas-based Butler Burgher Group, a nationwide commercial valuation firm. She co-founded the company in 1992 and has more than 25 years of commercial real estate experience.

Coyle Named Volunteer of Distinction
Congratulations to Lance Coyle, MAI, the Appraisal Institute’s July “Volunteer of Distinction” for Region VIII!

Lance has been a member of the Appraisal Institute for 25 years. His service to the Appraisal Institute includes serving as president of the North Texas Chapter and as chair of its finance and public relations committees. A former Region VIII director, he has served as an Appraisal Institute instructor since 2002 and has served on several committees, including the Education Committee, Strategic Planning Committee, Report Writing Workgroup and Commercial Database Negotiating Team.

Coyle has been involved in the real estate valuation profession for more than a quarter-century. His service to the profession includes being a featured presenter on appraisal requirements and attorneys for the Center for American and International Law’s Planning, Zoning and Eminent Domain series, earning his Certified Commercial Investment Member designation from the CCIM Institute and authoring an appraisal article featured in the Dallas Business Journal. He has been certified as a general real estate appraiser and real estate broker by the state of Texas, and has been CEO of Coyle Realty Advisors since 1991.

The Appraisal Institute member recognition program honors members for their volunteer service to the Appraisal Institute, to the real estate valuation profession and to their local communities. Any member in good standing who makes contributions to the Appraisal Institute, the appraisal profession or their local community is eligible to be recognized.
